In June, 1973, the newly chartered bank opened its doors for business at 631 Main Street in downtown Rapid City. By 1978, it had outgrown its location. Property was purchased across the street where a new building was erected. By the fall of 1979, the bank was in a new location at 632 Main Street.

At $114 million in assets, American State Bank is the smallest bank in Rapid City. It is the only locally owned bank with its stockholders and Board of Directors actively involved in business in the Rapid City area. American State Bank continues to focus on helping small businesses. A strong commitment to very personal customer service will insure that this bank continues to grow and serve the city and area around Rapid City.
